Measuring your short haired dog

First things first you need the right measuring tape! To measure precise and snug, use either a fabric tape measure or a string, wrap around your dogs neck and/or head, than line up against any tape measure.

How tight/loose do you measure your dog? The worst feeling is being excited for your gear to finally come in the mail than once putting your collar on your dog, turns out it's way too big. To avoid this happening, please provide me with SNUG measurements. There's no need to account for space.

Want a looser or specific fit? If you're wanting a looser fit or a more specific fit, than please let me know ahead of time in the comment section at the time of ordering.

Just remember.. Your dog may wear their collar on different settings while doing different activities. While walking your dog, you may tighten your Buckle Collar by one hole. Just lounging around the house? Keep this in mind while ordering a more looser fit if that is what you would like. Let me know in the comment section!

Measuring your long haired dog

Where do you measure your dog? To avoid your Collar fitting way too tight, or so loose where it could potentially slip over their heads, I ask for long haired dogs, that you provide me with the measurements for where your dog typically wears their collars.

Very Important!

It is very important you provide me with ACCURATE measurements when ordering a martingale or slip collar.

To measure precise, use either a fabric tape measure or a string, in which you'll wrap it around your dogs neck and/or head, than measure against any old tape measure.

Measuring your dogs head

Since these type of collars fit by slipping over your dogs head, it is extremely important you provide me with snug and accurate measurements.

The largest part of a dogs head is typically right in front of their ears (as shown). There is no need to account for extra space!

If you have a dog who has a large head and smaller neck, it is recommended you add a buckle to your collar. In doing so, I will solely design your martingale or slip collar based on your dogs neck size.

Measuring your dogs neck

We ideally want the collar to lay nicely on our dogs necks, yet still when the collar engages, not be able to slip over their heads.

If you're wanting a more specific fit, than please let me know ahead of time in the comment section at the time of ordering, not after.

Have questions about sizing?

What size is best for my dog?

Our 5/8" Collars are designed for smaller dogs (and even cats). Our 3/4" collars are best suited for medium dogs and the 1" Collars are for medium to xx-large dogs

My dog's neck is 14" which is in the middle of sizes. Which size do you recommend, a Small or Medium?

If your dog is in the last or beginning of a Size, than I suggest you get a Custom Sized Collar. If your dog is just a puppy and you think is going to grow into the Collar, than get the collar that still has room for growth

I want to order a Martingale Collar but my dogs head is a lot bigger than his neck. What do I do?

In this case, your Collar is going to potentially be tad loose on your dog. It isn't the end of the world though as some like their Martingale Collar to fit looser. I will design your Collar based on the largest part of their head first so it can slip over.

My dog is a giant and has a very large neck, what size do you go up to?

I can make a Collar to whatever size you'd like! I offer on my website sizes up to XX-Large, but if you need a Collar larger than that, please reach out to me at hello@outboundcanineco.com

Which hole should the buckle settle in ideally?

The ideal placement of the buckle is to be situated in the middle hole. If your dog is still growing, than look at buying a Collar that your dog can grow into which would be a Collar where the buckle would be placed in the first or second hole.

Should I round up to account for space for my Slip Collar?

If you are wanting your Collar to fit looser or have a specific fit, please let me know in the comment section on the product you are wanting to buy. I already account for roughly .5"-1" of extra space while desiging them, so to avoid the Collar fitting too large, please give me SNUG measurements
